Issue Cover

Total FlyFisher  |  November 2013

The November issue of Total FlyFisher is packed with some amazing fishing and fly-tying features – we’ve something for each and every one of you!
For something that little bit different we have and awesome exclusive with tope – yes, you read that right – on the fly as fly fishing nut Alex Wilkie gets to grips with one of the toughest fish in the sea!
Andy Smith looks closely at tackling small-water applications properly. Have you ever tried fishing the margins, and if not why not? It’s where most of the fish are, you just need to tailor your approach to catch these wily, resident trout, and Andy shows you how.
Rivers aces John Pearson and Paul Gaskell give us the lowdown on the ways of tenkara, and dispel a few myths in the process. If you think this is only a small-fish method hold on to your hats as the boys set about proving that theory wrong!
Some of the older methods for presenting flies have seen better days but the art of dapping lives on, and rightly so, as Graham Pearson shows how to get this productive technique working on small and large stillwaters.
Stalking trout is increasingly popular and so it should be – seeing those fish before you catch them is a real buzz. Mike Low heads to Syon Park in London to see if he can get to grips with this visual side of our exciting sport!
AAPGAI master Glyn Freeman describes the casts we need in order to be successful when targeting salmon, explaining all the ins and outs of the double Spey and circle casts. We also have some awesome fly tying, with George Barron showing off his end-of-season Minkies for big resident trout and Barry Ord Clark’s number-one fry pattern – it’s guaranteed to get a reaction!
All this, plus tackle reviews, catch shots and great competitions!

Could Be Better Reviewed Saturday, March 9, 2013
The magazine is about the best out there, I like wild fishing and for me there's too heavy a focus on stocked waters and bright bushy flies but they do feature wild waters, natural flies, coarse fish on the fly and the occasional salt water fly fishing spread, I've even seen some tenkara articles.

I really wish the mag would move away from the stockie bashing and feature more wild fishing. Being the best of a bad bunch isn't much to shout about but there you go!
Great read! Reviewed Monday, January 28, 2013
Full of amazing shots, nteresting articles and always manages to teach me something every month with expert fly-tying.
