Grey crowned-cranes in crisis

Conservationists hope to save this endangered bird in Rwanda, as local people, who sell them for domestication in Kigali, poach them from the wild. “When I was growing up I used to see cranes in wetlands but when I became an adult, I started seeing them at hotels and in people’s homes, and realised that they could become extinct if nothing was done,” said Dr Olivier Nsengimana, founder of the Rwanda Crane and Wetland Conservation Project.
