Causing the biggest stir this month is the long-awaited unveiling
of Renault’s Euro 6 vehicles. Although we thought the colour of
the launch trucks revealed left a bit to be desired, there’s no
denying the effort to which the French firm has gone to ensure
its new T (long distance), C (construction), K (heavy construction)
and D (distribution) ranges will prove reliable investments. For all the
details, head to page 6.
This issue, we’ve taken Volvo’s new-shape FH for a test drive. Equipped
with the Swedish manufacturer’s latest 460 bhp Euro 6 engine and a range
of improvements over the Euro 5 version, we think any driver will be
chuffed to get their hands on one of these. Find out why on page 30.
Truck on Trial draws an eye-opening comparison between an aging Foden
Alpha and Merc Axor at Hardstaff Haulage in Nottingham. The firm had a close relationship with
the British marque and at one point had one of the largest fleets of Fodens in the country – and is
still running them on regular ADR work. Find out how the Alpha fared, starting page 38.
Elsewhere, we look at the rise of crash-for-cash incidents, which is becoming a major headache
for operators and insurance companies. Luckily, there’s some clever tech you can use to help
safeguard your company – and your drivers – against falling foul of the scammers (page 22). And
while the current economic climate is making it harder to stay in the black, there are a few steps
firms can take to help them keep cash flow healthy (page 28).
Also, we take a tour of the world’s most unusual tankers (page 52), JB Rawcliffe moves an
oversized industrial dryer on a particularly trying journey through Greater Manchester (page 60),
and Edwards Moving & Rigging demonstrates why it’s one of the USA’s leading heavy-haul
specialists (page 88). All this and much more – enjoy your read!
