CC Jerome and saxophonist Mikkel van der Meulen were in a tight spot. Their band, The Savoys, had recorded an album for El Toro Records, they had shows booked – and their singer had just quit. Jerome had a gig with his rockabilly band in a bar, and the owner told Jerome that his waitress Cheri Addo could sing, so she got up and performed Ben E. King’s Stand By Me. “I asked her, ‘Cheri, do you have a band already?’” says Jerome. “She said no. I said, ‘Well, you’ve got one now!’”
Adopting the stage name Georgina Peach, Addo jumped in at the deep end, playing two shows on the same day at Atomic Festival in Brussels and the Paradiso in Amsterdam. “Yeah, really in the deep, like a little fish,” she says. The band released their debut I’m On My Way in 2019, capturing their powerhouse vintage R&B sound.
