The Beatles touched down in Las Vegas to continue their first extensive US tour, having played to over 17,000 screaming fans the previous night in San Francisco. Not only did the Fab Four smash attendance records, but they were swamped wherever they dared tread, spending much of the tour transported around in ambulances (and even a laundry truck) as their limo was constantly surrounded. The band were even offered a staggering $150,000 to play an unplanned gig at the Kansas Municipal Stadium, having missed the city off the schedule. They returned home from New York leaving behind them the deafening roar of 100,000 fans. They would soon be introduced to drugs via Dylan, psychedelia via Timothy Leary and transcendental meditation via Maharishi Mahesh Yogi; the innocence of old would be no more.
