Don’t tell me I can’t… go to Glastonbury IN MY 40s

WORDS: ANNA VERDON

Dancing in a muddy field along with thousands of other people, the atmosphere is electric. I’m at my first Glastonbury festival with a group of my closest friends. But while you might thinkI’m a teenager excited to get away from my parents for the weekend, I’m not. I’m a 45-year-old mother-of-two and having the best time of my life.

I’ve always loved music. Growing up, I’d listen to Genesis, Phil Collins, Madness and The Police. But living in Cornwall there weren’t many gigs to go to, so I’d play their records with my friends in my room.

The first person I ever saw live was Tina Turner. I was 19 and I’d just moved to London. I felt so alive singing along to all her hits with the rest of the crowd. From then on I spent my weekends with friends watching live music and two years later I moved in with my partner Russell.

About Woman

KATE'S FEARS "I'LL NEVER LIVE UP TO DIANA" Next week sees the Duchess of Cambridge face one of her biggest challenges yet, as she’s set to host a charity gala for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices at Houghton Hall in Norfolk, just a stone’s thrown from her home at Anmer Hall. The pressure is undoubtedly on for Kate to bring in big donations for the charity. But it’s a whole other set of expectations that is causing problems, as, yet again, her efforts will almost certainly be compared to the famous charitable endeavours of her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. But palace insiders tell Woman that Kate, 34, is determined to shake off those unhelpful comparisons once and for all.
