MICHAELA STRACHAN
The wildlife presenter Michaela Strachan has an infectious laugh and a crackling energy that lights up not just our TV screens but also my computer screen that I’m talking to her via Skype on, as she’s at home in South Africa. Two years ago, she’s quick to tell you, she was battling the Big C. When she was 48, she was diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer that knocked her for six. "Having cancer enabled me to treasure my life and the good things in it. So now, I try not to sweat the small stuff" she says. "I was lucky my cancer was caught in time after a routine
mammogram and that it hadn’t spread and that treatment was available to me." Now, Michaela will need to take Tamoxifen for the next two years. She has become a motivational speaker for the UK organisation, Fitter, Stronger, which was set up by fellow former breast-cancer sufferer, Paula Kerr.
