BE THE CHANGE
If, like many, you watched the recent BBC TV series Blue Planet II, it’s likely you were left horrified by its stark portrayal of the impact of plastic pollution on marine life. For me, the most upsetting scene came in the final episode, when cameras showed the carcass of an Albatross chick, killed by a plastic toothpick puncturing its stomach. The series massively heightened public awareness of sea pollution, with many pledging to reduce their use of plastics – including the BBC, which aims to be free of single-use plastic across all sites by 2020.
