Mum of two girls, aged four and six, Wendy Rumble talks about setting up her own running clubs and qualifying for the Boston Marathon
The Buggy Squad at the ready
PB. I had got a specific training plan from a local coach, Leila Oliver, and stuck to it. I eventually completed Boston in April 2019.
How did you get in to running?
At school hockey was my sport, but sharp efforts often resulted in asthma attacks, which didn’t make it overly enjoyable! In my mid-twenties I was doing Weight Watchers and decided to enter the London Marathon based on the stories of the weight ‘dropping off’ people who trained for a marathon. I became totally absorbed, ate as many calories as I burnt in training, had a spray tan and manicure for the race and finished without hitting a ‘wall’ in 4 hours 28 minutes. I wanted to do it again, and faster.
