I will be honest. My half marathon training this summer had not gone to plan. As regular readers of my column will know, it went off course when I fell out of love with running and struggled to get back on track.
Hitting the trails once more in late summer, with the intention of becoming more mindful, went a long way to sorting out my mindset. But had I left it a bit too late? After all, completing 13.1 miles is no small feat, and I was seriously undertrained. Oops.
A few times I considered quietly backing out. But then I would take a peek at the Bournemouth Marathon Festival website and the images of runners gliding along the seafront would draw me back in. It looked like the ideal location for a spot of mindful running, so I decided to ignore pace and PBs, and give it a go. Oh, and I donned a lot of (biodegradable) glitter, for some extra sparkle power.
