Spectacle is a lavishly produced new US-based print quarterly illustrated fiction and lifestyle magazine with an emphasis on all forms of speculative fiction, including utopias, dystopias, alt history, the apocalyptic and postapocalyptic, superheroes and the weird. Non-fiction includes culture, style, art, gear, interviews, infographics and puzzles. The first issue, published in February, was 128 pages long, with 40+ full colour illustrations and contributors from ten countries. As well as eight new stories, there were articles on ‘insane fan theories’, antidrone guns, the lasting impact of Buck Rogers, facial recognition software, ‘Danny Boyle’s worst film’ and an interview with Sam Altman about basic income.
