Judge Meg Marsden highlights the winning entries from our subscriber-only Holiday Poetry Competition

Everyone loves a holiday don’t they? Or do they? It would seem not judging from the many and varied submissions to the subscriber-only holiday poetry competition. It is so easy for us all to make assumptions based on our own feelings and experiences. It never ceases to fascinate how very different we all are.

Amongst the entries were those who detested the very idea of moving away from the security of their everyday working pattern. Many wrote of glorious childhood trips to the seaside; some wrote sadly of ‘leave’ when in the forces and then being parted from a loved one as war intervened. And Venice featured fondly in several submissions.
