Doris Corti suggests some simple rhyme patterns to prompt new poems

I admire the innovators of free verse. Why? Because they were bold in deciding that rhymes and metric lines restrict the flow of ideas.

I can almost hear some readers crying out ‘not true!’ Of course it is necessary for poets to have a good knowledge of rhyme patterns (and therefore rhythms) as well as an understanding of metric structures. So let’s start with some basic rhymes.
