It’s hard to believe we’re almost halfway through 2023 — time to
get busy and enjoy some new activities and adventures while you can. Late spring/early summer is a lovely time to discover new walks for you and your dog (provided it’s not too hot of course) and this issue we’ve discovered some spectacular routes in North Yorkshire. Check out page 34 for some inspiration.
Wherever you’re walking, don’t forget to only venture out during the cooler parts of the day and to take a portable bowl and some water with you for your dog. Our feature ‘10 essentials to take on your walks’ (page 10) has further advice on items you’ll find useful.
Did you know that dog agility is one of the most popular dog sports? If you’re looking for a more fast-paced activity for you and your pet, maybe this could be the answer. In our ‘Your active dog’ series, the spotlight falls on this fast-growing canine sport and answers your questions on how you can take part — see page 42.
Finally, for those with senior pets it can be difficult to find somewhere new to explore that doesn’t prove a little overwhelming for older canines. These days your ‘golden oldie’ may prefer the chance to sniff lots of new smells, a cosy bed to curl up in, and short walks that aren’t too physically demanding — rather than being constantly ‘on the go’.
In our dog-friendly breaks series (page 28) we’ve found six fantastic places to stay that could be just what you’re looking for.
