A survey by AppliancesDirect.co.uk has shown that the average UK family could save up to £1,000 per year, simply by making better use of their freezer. While 4% of those surveyed don’t own a freezer at all, 15% admit to only using theirs rarely, relying only on fresh food in the fridge. More than 65% regularly throw away food because they are unsure if it can be frozen or not. AppliancesDirect estimates that by using the freezer to store foods that are unlikely to be consumed before their use-by date, or by purchasing more frozen food, households could save up to £1,100 per year – the equivalent of a holiday, or even the cost of Christmas.
