TREND ALERT... LOFT LIVING

Live the high life with the loft living trend

Background wallpaper Votna 111112 from Levande collection, £36 per roll, Scion

With many people knocking through their living areas to create light and airy open-plan spaces the loft living look has become more and more popular and no longer exclusively suitable for fashionable city-dwellers living in converted warehouses. This style has in the past been very industrial using the building’s exposed bones as part of the design, such as bare brickwork, and steel beams. This, however, is a cleaned up version making it incredibly easy to achieve in a modern family home.

Furniture choices are key – everything should serve a purpose so that it’s functional as well as stylish, whether that’s because it has hidden storage, or acts as a room divider. Modular storage and sofas are perfect as you can adapt them to make your space work as hard as possible. Choose designs that are streamlined, using pared-back materials. Pale greys and light woods should be the backdrop to simple geometrics and splashes of bright colour.
