Your Horse  |  Spring 2016
SHAPE HIM UP
To enjoy your riding to the full this coming season, and minimise the risk of injury, your horse has to be fit for the level of work he’ll be doing and now’s the time to start. His fitness should be built up gradually over a number of weeks to enable his body to adjust to the demands. There can be no short cuts, as any sudden increases in work may result in injury. Whatever level of fitness you’re aiming for, having a training programme in place will help you stay on track. And, if you’re aiming for a particular competition, it can help to
start with that as your goal and work back, using a combination of hacking and schooling to strengthen his muscles and respiratory system.
