In this instance, the term ‘bespoke’ is not chosen lightly. The word originated in English in the 16th century, as an adjective of the verb bespeak, and quite simply means ‘to order or arrange in advance’, used to identify when items are ordered before they are made. Today, the term has surely reached peak popularity in common parlance, and is applied widely, without question, to anything from men’s tailoring to artisanal coffee. You might argue that a coffee is ordered before it is made, but the same cannot be said within the travel industry, with ‘bespoke’ packages available in just a few clicks, pulling the credibility of such a claim onto centre stage.
