Istill get a frisson of excitement when I search for someone at Ancestry.co.uk and there they are (or might be…), top of the results page, in a public member tree. It’s not always to be, of course. Sometimes other family historians’ trees have given me a shove in the right direction when I’ve been struggling; other times they’ve led me up the garden path, so I’m always super careful to follow up any possible lead in every direction I can think of.
