Bound for Britain in 1950
When my mum Tietje and her friend arrived in Liverpool Street on a boat train from the Hook of Holland in 1950, England was a very different place. Clothing rationing had just ended and her employer– the TB Sanatorium on the Isle of Wight – had requested measurements in order to make up new nurses’ uniforms. Dutifully they sent this information.
