Ashbrooke Sports Club in Sunderland has renamed and rededicated its historic and recently refurbished century-old rugby grandstand in memory of past players.
Now named ‘The Last Stand’, the grandstand has been mainly dedicated to Sunderland (R)FC rugby players who fell during the two world wars, plus other players who contributed to sporting life at Ashbrooke, formerly known as Sunderland Cricket and Football Club, founded in 1887.
Club archivist and family historian Keith Gregson tells the stories behind those to whom the stand has been dedicated at www.ashbrookesports.org/our-heritage
