Techy tips for family historians

Make the most of digital devices, websites, apps and gadgets, with genealogical web guru Paul Carter

FROM THE WORLD OF TECH

Tech tool

For a long time now smartphones have really been advanced miniature computers with the built-in facility to make and receive calls, but all those features and apps can quickly drain the phone’s battery power. Must-have gadget

In a bid to avoid this nightmare scenario, I pack an external battery pack that can be connected to my phone via its USB cable. All that’s left to do is remember to charge the charger before leaving home! There’s many similar models on the market but I use a Pilot External Battery Pack (£19.99 from Amazon).
