It’s one of the most iconic names in sports bike history, having burned itself into our consciousness over the past quarter of a century. So out of pure respect for this very special motorcycle, we’ve gone all out to revisit the 12 generations of Blade that have shaped 2017’s new incarnation into the model it is today…

1992/93 CBR900RR – N/P FireBlade

Brainchild of Honda designer Tadao Baba, the original Blade broke the established 749cc sportsbike rule with its 893cc motor and trounced the competition by combining this extra power with an incredibly low weight and class-leading handling.

The 16-inch front wheel was controversial, but Honda’s gamble on giving its bike extra cubes and targeting road riders and not racers started the modern litre sportsbike class while simultaneously killing the 750cc class.

The drilled lower fairing and top cowl was claimed to improve aerodynamics and reduce weight.
