Impepho is a word in isiZulu and isiXhosa languages that refers to the whole helichrysum plant species.
Helichrysum has 600 species mainly in Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia and 244 of these occur in southern Africa.
The word helichrysum is Greek derived, helios (meaning sun) and chrysos (meaning gold) – fitting for the yellow flowers that the plant produces all year round.
