Suspended Moment: The Music Of Jonathan Coe (British Progressive Jazz) sees celebrated author Jonathan Coe take a turn in the spotlight as a composer. A long-time Canterbury scene fan, he writes engaging tunes possessing some of that whimsical melodicism that endears so many to this branch of progressive music. Occasionally reminiscent of Matching Mole/Hatfield guitarist Phil Miller’s In Cahoots outfit, Coe’s tunes are expertly fleshed out by The Artchipel Orchestra, a 19-piece big band that includes Coe himself on keyboards. Under the direction of Ferdinando Faraò, the ensemble provide sprightly, constantly unfurling arrangements.
