You have to hand it to id Software, it certainly knows how to make a kick-ass first-person shooter. I’ve been playing through Doom: The Dark Ages and have had a right laugh with it. I’m not quite finished with it yet (hence no review in this issue) but it’s already clear to see that it’s a great alternative to the reboot of Doom released in 2016. In fact, I’ve been having so much fun with it that I’ve returned to the original game on Nintendo’s Switch, which is as satisfying to play today as it was when I first experienced it on my mate’s 486 back in the early Nineties.
