WII MUSIC 2008
WII • DESIGNER, PRODUCER
Wii Music
arrived at a time when the likes of
Guitar Hero
and
Rock Band
had driven rhythm action games to unprecedented levels of success, but Shigeru Miyamoto’s contribution to the genre was surprisingly lacklustre. This was mainly down to the overreliance on public domain music that ranged from Happy Birthday To You to La Bamba. More disappointing, however, was the sheer lack of actual Nintendo compositions, which clocked in at just eight tracks. Although the focus on creativity over the rhythm matching of other games was commendable, the overall simplicity of Wii Music was the final straw for fans of the genre, and while it was certainly accessible, it just didn’t hold your attention for very long. Despite Miyamoto making reference to an enhanced version in interviews, the game never received a follow-up.
