”I’ve learned you don’t have to fit the traditional image of what a runner should look like. Anyone can run”
I got into running at the end of January 2018 by doing the Couch to 5K app on my phone. I got started because I wanted to lose weight. I’d not long given birth to my daughter and needed to get fitter. I’d lost my dad when I was 14 – when he was only 48 years old – so it felt like the right time to start looking after myself a bit more, too.
So I started running when my daughter was just eight weeks old. I had my health check appointment six weeks after giving birth and asked the doctor if it was okay to start running straight away. They said yes, so off I went.
Runner’s high
Lots of people say they never looked back once they started running, but I really didn’t! It was hard at the start, but I definitely got runner’s high even in those early days, so I don’t really remember the bad bits.
One of the best things I’ve ever done is spend £200 on a running buggy. I still use it two or three times a week now. In terms of cost effectiveness, I’m probably down to 50p per run, so it was a great investment.
