Homophobia in 2016

Analysis In England, Wales and Scotland, LGBT people have the right to marry, have children and live their lives as they see fit. So why, in 2016, are we still the subjects of vile hatred in the streets?

Homophobia: [n] the hatred or ‘fear’ of homosexuals — a phobia that includes a dislike and want to remove. Found usually against gay men, lesbians, bisexual and trans individuals — sometimes leading to acts of violence and expressions of hostility. Homophobia is not confined to one segment of society and can be found in people from all walks of life.

It’s a funny thought, really. The idea that someone is seemingly ‘scared’ of your being, based on what you do privately with the one you love. You! Yes, you. That phobic individual wants to hurt the same person that goes wild for a good musical, is addicted to RuPaul’s Drag Race, knows Wednesday is almost certainly pink clothing day, and will forever dance to Madonna until way beyond your years. That’s right. You’re wrong. Unnatural. And they’re seemingly not afraid to tell you.
