We recently had a stand at The Allergy and FreeFrom Show at London’s Olympia, an event that showcases all the latest products (and some of the more established brands) to hit the gluten-free market. We go every year, always with the expectation of seeing the same faces, tasting the same produce and treading the same aisles. However, each year we are more than pleasantly surprised as this is never the case. What is so great about this show is seeing all the emerging brands, from one-person start-ups to bigger companies looking to expand their range of offerings. The gluten-free market has expanded beyond belief over the past few years (thank goodness) and companies are beginning to realise that we are not just happy with a substitute anymore, moreso that substitute should taste great and not cost the earth. This is happening (it obviously could be quicker) and what is very evident from these shows is that it isn’t just the big names that are making all the noise. Small, passionate individuals are the people that are the driving force behind this movement, making huge sacrifices to ensure those on a gluten-free diet can enjoy their food and drink as much as the next person. It’s an enlightening and uplifting place to be at these shows, from the large events at the huge venues, to the smaller ones in the town hall. Go see for yourselves, you’ll be inspired too…
