FoodMarble, the start-up behind the first personal digestive tracker, is collaborating with top hospitals to unlock the potential of personalised medicine in managing chronic digestive problems. Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a condition that affects 1-in-8 people worldwide and can have an extremely disruptive impact on its sufferers. The FoodMarble app was developed to help users measure what is happening in their body in real-time and is based offa clinical approach that has been used by doctors for decades.

Recently, the start-up registered it’s 250,000th breath test on the platform. Dr Shortt explained how the process works “Users log food, sleep, stress, sleep and symptoms in the app and take regular breath tests throughout the day. Each breath test measures the level of fermentation in your gut, which indicates how well a certain food being digested. Rapid fermentation can lead to digestive symptoms, so you want to avoid foods that have that reaction for you. The FoodMarble AIRE device is available from from £149 and the app is free to download from the App Store or Google Play.
