I’m thinking of bringing out a range of t-shirts. No, seriously. I’ve been musing on it for some time. I know, I know, I’m not in the clothing trade, but it’s got a lot to do with being coeliac, having a conscience, wanting to be eco-friendly, increasingly eating a lot more plant-based food and…
Woah there! Is this too much? Let me back up the truck. A while ago, Zara brought out a t-shirt that caused quite a stir. You may remember it. It read: ‘Are you gluten-free?’ The web went a little crazy about it, with all sorts of opinions flying back and forth. Over 50,000 people signed a petition to ban the t-shirt, claiming it was off ensive. (The petition was successful: the t-shirt was pulled.)
I couldn’t help but wonder why people felt so strongly. It wasn’t denouncing gluten, nor was it suggesting anyone should go without. It simply started a conversation. And thus my brain started ticking over. But like many a good dish, I decided the idea needed time to marinate.
