1 THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ‘WHISKEY’ AND ‘WHISKY’
The two different spellings indicate the geographical origins of the spirit. The word itself comes from the Gaelic ‘uisge beatha’ or ‘uisce beatha’ in Irish, which translates to ‘water of life’. The spelling differences come from the translation of Irish and Scottish Gaelic. If you see ‘whiskey’ on a label, it’s Irish. Whiskey from the USA also uses the ‘e’, due to the large numbers of Irish immigrants who set up across the Atlantic.
