Great British Food  |  Feb 2019
What dish couldn't you live without? We asked our favourite chefs, including Raymond Blanc and Rosie Birkett, to wax lyrical about the foods they love the most. The answers were strikingly similar: bubbling melted cheese on toast, dippy egg and soldiers and proper chip shop chips with loads of salt and vinegar all ranked highly. It goes to show that simple dishes are often the ones we keep going back to. This issue of Great British Food is all about celebrating life's simple pleasures, from hot crumpets dripping with butter to that first bite of a crisp apple. Pancakes are probably my ultimate comfort food and we've got an array of sweet and savoury treats in store – from sage and ricotta baked crepes to a show-stopping rhubarb Dutch baby. Perfect for an extra special Shrove Tuesday! Of course, feel-good food doesn't have to be all about indulgence; we've got treat breakfasts that are packed with goodness, Tom Kerridge's fresh and light meals and all kinds of wholesome weekday suppers in our new Seasonal Feast section. Meanwhile, writer Heather Taylor explores some easy and delicious ways to eat more sustainably this year. From cutting down on food waste to embracing nose-to-tail eating, these small changes can add up to make a big difference. Have a delicious month!
