Expert Advice Q & A

It’s holiday season at last! But with the fun and sun can come seasonal health issues. Dietitian Juliette Kellow tackles the most common dilemmas

Q Do you have any diet tips to help with my travel sickness?

A SOME PEOPLE find nibbling on dry crackers or sipping fizzy drinks (pick diet varieties) help to ease symptoms. Others swear by ginger-flavoured foods and drinks. Although studies looking at ginger to treat motion sickness have had varied results, it may be worth packing a gingernut biscuit or bottle of diet ginger ale. Peppermint may help, too, so try sucking a sugar-free mint or take a flask of peppermint tea. It’s best to avoid spicy or greasy foods and alcohol when travelling, as they can unsettle the stomach.
