65 who eat at least one portion of fish a week are 40% less likely to suffer from any form of dementia, according to a recent French study

When it comes to eating healthily, we’re often told about all the things we should avoid or cut down on, and it’s refreshing to hear about a food we should actually enjoy more often. So a big round of applause for fish! Health experts recommend two portions a week and specifically advise that one of these should be an oily variety. Unfortunately, few of us are eating that much. Figures from the most recent National Diet and Nutrition Survey show that adults aged 19 to 64 manage, on average, one portion of fish in total and just over a third of a portion of oily fish each week. Older adults eat a little more, but still fail to get close to the recommended amounts. And it’s an even bleaker picture for teenagers – on average, they eat just one portion of oily fish every 10 weeks!
