WHICH FOODS ARE ON THE ‘NO’ LIST?

Stocking the storecupboard will be second nature when you know what to look out for

AVOIDING GLUTEN means you can’t eat WHEAT, BARLEY or RYE. While oats don’t contain gluten, they can sometimes be contaminated with it during the milling process, so you always need to check they’re labelled gluten free. Plus a small number of people are sensitive to a protein in OATS called avenin, which is similar to gluten. For this reason, most newly diagnosed coeliacs are advised to avoid oats for at least six months to allow the gut to heal.

IN GENERAL, YOU’LL NEED TO AVOID...

Flour, pasta, many breakfast cereals and anything that’s made with wheat flour, which includes bread, cakes, biscuits, pizza bases, pastries and other baked goods and anything covered in batter or breadcrumbs.
