TONE UP to look & feel great

EVEN IF YOU’VE LOST WEIGHT and look fabulous in clothes, you may feel a little self-conscious when you undress. No need to worry. With the right exercise, you can see off those stubborn wobbly bits and saggy skin.

‘It can be frustrating when our bodies don’t adapt to change as fast as we’d like them to’, says Chris Wharton, personal trainer to Dame Kelly Holmes and owner of the Better Body Group gyms in Kent ( ‘If you’ve been overweight for a while, your skin will have stretched and lost elasticity. The older we get, the less likely it is to spring back into shape, especially if weight loss has been significant or rapid. If you still have fat to lose, some areas can be particularly hard to shift.’

The solution? ‘Continue to eat well and maintain a calorie deficit by keeping active’, says Chris. Then try one of these expert-approved techniques…

Muscle building Resistance training

When it comes to exercise for fat-burning and building lean muscle, resistance (or strength) training, comes top. ‘To lose fat, your diet has to come first’, says Chris. ‘But resistance training will help to shift your body composition from fat towards muscle. By building lean muscle mass you increase your fat-burning potential, because muscle is more metabolically active than fat.’
