EAT ONIONS TO LOWER YOUR BOWEL CANCER RISK

ADULTS WHO ATE the highest amounts of allium-family veg were 79% less likely to suffer with bowel (colorectal) cancer – a condition diagnosed in 110 people in the UK each day – than those who ate the least, according to researchers. A new Chinese study found that cooking with onions, leeks, garlic, shallots, chives and spring onions is not only tasty, but may help protect against colorectal cancer. Natural sulphur-containing compounds and antioxidants in these veg are likely to be responsible for their beneficial effects.
