MINDFUL WORKOUTS
We now recognise being mentally fit is as important as being physically fit, and the fitness market is shifting to reflect that. Leading mindfulness app Headspace has teamed up with Nike to produce guided mindful runs, to help joggers feel more grounded as they put in the miles. There’s also the Run Mindful app, which contains meditations for runners to stay focused and overcome race-day jitters. New book Mindful Thoughts For Runners by Tessa Wardley (Leaping Hare Press, £6.99) is out in March, and designed to coach us to see running as a spiritually enriching activity that connects us to our breath, body and the natural world. Expect gyms and PTs to follow suit, encouraging us to stop seeing all forms of exercise as just a physical thing.
