We know too much sitting is bad for our health, but a new study has given hope to desk-bound workers – because it’s what you do outside work that really matters, with leisure-time sitting proving more harmful. The US research found that people who sat watching TV over four hours a day had a 50 per cent greater risk of cardiovascular events and death than those who watched less than two hours. However, the study also found that fitting in 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week could eliminate the risk altogether. So whatever your nine to five, make those wraparound hours count.
