HUNTING: ACTION WITH THE SOUTH NOTTS AND WARWICKSHIRE
Late February can be a horrible time of year for Masters of Foxhounds (MFHs), especially when the ground is as sodden as it has been this year. With little time for the ground to dry up before spring, farmers quite understandably start to become extremely twitchy. Yet there is no let up for the poor MFH, who still has to keep the country open and maintain good sport, right up to the end of the season. It is a truly thankless task and you can forgive some masters for looking like the weight of the world is on their shoulders. There are many, however, who seem to navigate this difficult time of year with quiet assurance and good humour.
