Pasture Rehab

Four tactics to maintain and improve your horse’s pasture grass.
DAGMARA KSANDROVA/SHUTTERSTOCK

On a rise near the edge of our horse property, we have two adjoining pastures. This is where a couple of our horses graze from morning until night all year long. In the spring, these two pastures are well-groomed with the grass all the same height, but by the time fall rolls around, the pastures begin to look a little tired. Bare spots show up near the gates.

If you don’t have spare pastures to use for rotational grazing, add temporary electric fencing to subdivide your fields so they can rest.
