If I’ve learned anything over the past few years as a mother of two young children, it’s this: Horses make me a better mom. Despite the expense (a lot) and the time (also a lot) horses require, my experience with them has been worth every penny and every minute of my time. I’m a happier person because of horses, and that makes me a better mom.
You’ve probably heard the airline announcement, “Put on your own oxygen mask before assisting others”? It can be applied to life with children. The thing is, kids make it easy to forget to take care of yourself first and foremost. I love my two children with every fiber of my being, but that doesn’t mean the daily ins and outs of raising a family are enjoyable all the time. It’s hard work. It’s emotional work. It’s easy to forget our own needs when caring for babies and toddlers. There’s always a diaper that needs changing, a mouth to feed, or a sibling squabble to put to rest
