Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has received a new supplemental type certificate (STC) for cargo conversion for the Boeing 737-700BDSF from the FAA. The company has recently completed the first conversion of a prototype aircraft from passenger to full-freighter configuration, including installing an 84 x 134in (213 x 340cm) wide cargo door in the left-hand side of the forward fuselage. The converted jet, N627AS (c/n 30794), has the capacity to carry 3,673 cu ft (104m3) or 45,000lb (20,412kg) of freight. It is part of a three-aircraft programme and has now been delivered back to Alaska Airlines.
