Highly sought-after by scientists, meteorites reveal a lot about the universe. But meteorite hunting is not an easy task; approximately 500 land on our planet every year, yet only five or six are found.

Daniel Garcia Bernal, an instructor in dog training at the University Autónoma of Barcelona in Spain, came up with a solution when he realized that powerful canine noses might be able to help. With the assistance of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Daniel trained his own sniffer dog, an Australian shepherd named Kaly, how to recognize the smell of certain elements found in meteorites.
