Peu à Peu Sortant de la Brume, a 1969 screenprint by Ceri Richards (1903-71) is part of the annual summer show at Oriel Tegfryn in Anglesey.
Born near Swansea, Richards was a leading Welsh artist, co-exhibiting with Henry Moore, Ben Nicholson and Graham Sutherland among others during his lifetime. In 1962 he was a prize-winner at the Venice Biennale and today, more than 90 of his works are in the Tate’s collections, including a version of the print in question.
Richards was an accomplished pianist and his works often took a musical theme based on compositions by Debussy or Beethoven. The title of this picture (which means ‘emerging from the fog little by little’) is found in Debussy’s prelude La cathédrale engloutie.
