Arabella  |  Spring 2013

Every new issue of Arabella is unique, unexpected and extraordinary. Like a spring bulb whose roots explore the earth for nourishment, Arabella grows and transforms as we discover fresh artists, unique galleries, wonderful destinations, beautiful homes and lush gardens to energize and inspire our readers. The theme of Arabella's Spring 2013 issue is Awakenings – a celebration of our senses re-awakening after the long, cold Canadian winter. For those of you living in warmer climates around North America, spring still holds the promise of something new – something fresh and green that happens only with new growth and new beginnings. On the threshold of spring, we begin to notice a revival of invigorating sensations. Nature wakes from her snowy slumber and spring is suddenly upon us – vibrant, tender and alive. Heralding the season is the arrival of brightly-coloured blossoms budding from branches; the feel of fresh morning dew on our bare feet; the sweet melodies of birdsong and the gentle smell of nature’s perfume on a garden breeze. The sweet scent of spring is like no other season, so we designed Arabella Spring Awakenings to embrace this sensory adventure – with stories and images to excite and delight. “Artist to Collect” features profiling the brilliant talents of Tinyan Chan, Steven Friedman, Meghan Hildebrand, Dave Hind, Terry Isaac, Peter Lewis, Yvette Moore, St-Gilles and Craig Yeats set your senses ablaze with dynamic colours, painterly textures and luminous iridescence. Our tribute to "Artists Who Paint Flowers" captivates with the sweet aroma of a freshly cut bouquet. Cynthia Reyes's "Gardening Lessons" arouses memories of cool, moist soil and seeds slipping between your fingertips. A visit to California’s Presqu'ile Winery leaves the delicious taste of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc dancing on your tongue. Finally, a glimpse into the world and art of the legendary Toller Cranston stretches the idea of ‘eye candy’ to the extreme.
