The controversy over whether a road closure order was required to allow the world’s best pipe band to march through their home town was soon forgotten.
By the time the Inveraray band jumped off the bus with the Cowal Trophy on Saturday evening there was little chance, truth be told, that they wouldn’t march up the main street.
That is what the people wanted. That is what local politicians and others were pressing for. The band, too, were keen to take to the street rather than the avenue car park. With one police officer on duty, the pragmatic view was taken. They would march, but with a blue light in front to ensure safety.
