ICY drinks might not be foremost in your mind at this time of year, but a newlypublished study suggests that the colder the fluid you consume, particularly during warmer-weather exercise, the more efficiently your body responds in terms of performance output.
In a series of experiments involving subjects exercising in 88F (31C) air temperatures (with 50% relative humidity) for three hours, Dr Brent Ruby, director of the Montana Centre for Work Physiology and Exercise Metabolism at the University of Montana, sought to better understand how water temperature influences the body.
